The geology of the site means its magnetic cleanliness makes it ideal for magnetic measurement, allowing very small magnetic fields from equipment to be measured with absolute certainty. The land magnetic range is primarily used to test items used on mine counter measure vessels and explosive ordnance disposal equipment. The site is also home to an electronic warfare calibration centre.
